Vietnamese Fruits

WHO IS THE KING AND THE QUEEN IN THE TOPICAL FRUIT WORLD?

I come from Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country, which is famous for a lot of tropical fruits. You can easily buy them on the street markets or from street vendors. The fruit that comes across my mind first is durian. It is also called “the king fruit”. You can smell it from a far distance before you see it. Regarding its odour, it’s hard to describe. To Vietnamese people like me, such a smell is appealing and addictive while it seems to be disgusting to most of my foreign friends. When you look at a durian in the photo, do you think that it’s ugly? It is covered by a lot of spikes on its hard outer shell like its “weapons”, so that you should be careful when touching it. Moreover, a durian often has four to five fleshes. There are different ideas about the taste of durian flesh. Some people suppose that the durian flesh tastes as creamy as ice-cream while the others think that it is sweet and soft like a custard. Whatever it is like, it certainly blows your mind.

A king cannot live without a queen, and I cannot feel fulfilled without introducing you the “queen fruit” - mangosteen as it’s my favourite. Although the king and the queen are inextricably related, they are both typical and must-try tropical fruits. Different from a durian, a mangosteen has a soft, dark purple skin and white, juicy flesh and no strong odour. The mangosteen flesh is a mixture of sweet and sour flavour which makes it special and mouthwatering. Despite being as small as a tennis ball, a mangosteen contains of a variety of vitamins which are really good for our health. As a result, you will note down these fruits in your travel booklet when you visit my home country - Vietnam, won’t you?
